Volunteer Services Agency, a United Way Agency, is a local resource for volunteer recruitment, placement and management for people of all ages in the Mahoning Valley. It sponsors three programs: the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, which helps people 55 and older use their life experience skills in their communities; Volunteer Service to Seniors, which provides assistance and companionship to the elderly living independently in their homes; and the Volunteer Center, which helps people of all ages connect with local nonprofit agencies that need volunteer assistance. Volunteer help is needed for these agencies:
American Cancer Society: People needed immediately during daytime hours to assist with event planning, organization, implementation, and to provide computer skills to perform data entry.
Animal Charity: Volunteers needed to assist with the wildlife preservation program or fund-raising activities. Preservation program activities include caring for orphaned animals, feeding them and cleaning cages. Minimum volunteer requirement is two hours a week. Orientation and training provided.
Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care: People needed to assist elderly participants in and out of a minibus and help with recreation activities such as crafts and bingo.
Hope House Visitation Center: Volunteers immediately needed during daylight hours to assist staff in facilitating exchanges of children between families, monitoring visits, providing child care, manning the staff reception desk and performing light clerical duties.
Mahoning County MRDD Special Olympics: People needed to help with the annual invitational track and field meet at Austintown Fitch High School Stadium on Saturday. Volunteers will direct, assist, encourage and cheer on athletes at each event area and then transport the athletes to the awards stand. Orientation meeting begins at 9 a.m. Lunch will be provided.
Youngstown State University Arts Fair: Volunteers needed July 12-14 to assist in staffing, setting up and tearing down the annual arts fair help at the university in collaboration with the area arts council. There is a particular need for people to staff children's activities areas at the event.
Renaissance Place/Youngstown Area Health District: People needed immediately to provide light clerical support and answer phones during daytime hours.
