In graduation, a good example
It took a while for one of the students who graduated from California State University, Long Beach, on Friday to finish the requirements for his bachelor of arts degree. He dropped out 33 years ago and went to work instead.
But he decided that he needed to set a good example for his children. "I wanted to accomplish this for many years," he said in a statement, "as a thank-you to my parents for giving me the opportunity for an education and a career and as a personal note for my own family -- and young people everywhere -- about the importance of achieving their college education goals. & quot;
The student already had five honorary doctorates -- the latest from Yale -- three Oscars, untold wealth and fame, but he hadn't earned a college degree. So he found out how many credits he needed and completed the necessary course work. And now, the great movie director Steven Spielberg has that important certificate to hang on the wall.
Seeing the importance of a college degree to Spielberg should be an incentive to men and women everywhere to finish their education.
