Edward "Dan" McCarthy, special agent of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service Field Office Hawaii, was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award by Admiral Dennis C. Blair, commander in chief.
McCarthy, who received the award during a ceremony April 29 at Pearl Harbor, served as the admiral's personal security advisor from January 2000 to April 2002. He was responsible for conducting and coordinating advance security measures with U.S. embassies, foreign armed forces and host country law enforcement agencies while traveling in 41 cities in 28 countries within the Pacific region.
McCarthy is a son of Marian M. McCarthy and the late Edward J. McCarthy of 609 Sunset Drive, East Palestine. His wife, Julie, is the daughter of William W. and Joann Huston of 364 N. Pleasant Drive, East Palestine. The couple resides in Kailua, Hawaii, with their sons, Christopher and Will.
McCarthy will be transferred in June to the Computer Intrusion/Forensics Investigations Department of the NCIS Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
