Chaplain hits the roof
BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield police chaplain Dan Cesene will be "jailed" for 72 hours on the roof of the township administration building beginning at 8 a.m. June 13.
The Rev. Mr. Cesene, pastor of Faith Assembly of God, is attempting to raise $10,000 for community outreach to Mexico and Africa.
He will remain in a temporary cell on the roof until 8 a.m. June 16, or until the goal is reached.
He'll eat only bread and water delivered by township safety services.
The money is to pay for his outreach to Mexico and Africa, where he will work with other clergy and government officials to assist them in helping the disadvantaged.
2nd Ward meeting
WARREN -- Councilman Alford L. Novak, D-2nd, will conduct a ward meeting beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the shelter house at Packard Park.
Items to be discussed include neighborhood eyesores, nuisance houses and other property-maintenance code issues. Attendees also will be allowed time to discuss other topics.
Hazardous waste
BAZETTA -- The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District is sponsoring a household hazardous-waste collection Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds on Everett-Hull Road.
Residents of the two counties in the district can drop off paint, automotive fluids, pesticides, propane tanks and other household waste not accepted at the curb by waste haulers.
Not acceptable are garbage; industrial or commercial waste; medical waste; tires; appliances; ammunition or explosives; asbestos; or smoke detectors.

Italian Fest nominations
CANFIELD -- The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest is asking those interested in nominating their fathers or mothers as man or woman of this year's festival to submit letters of nomination giving their parents' history before the June 22 deadline. Programs about grants
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County is taking reservations for two free Grant Center programs June 6 in the meeting room of the main library, 305 Wick Ave. Both are open to representatives from nonprofit organizations.
"Grantseeking Basics: An Orientation to the Funding Research Process," an introduction to the Grant Center collection, will be at 9:30 a.m., and "Getting Started with FC Search," an introduction to the Foundation Center's database on CD-ROM, will be offered at 11 a.m.
