Pa. landowner deer licenses will be on sale through Friday

MERCER, Pa. -- Friday is the last day to buy a landowner antlerless deer license in Pennsylvania.
Ginny Richardson, Mercer County treasurer, said the licenses won't be available after that date. The sale of regular antlerless deer licenses begins Monday, she said.
Property owners who own 50 or more contiguous acres of land in one county qualify for the landowner antlerless deer licenses, which sell for $6 for residents and $26 for nonresidents of the state.
The landowner antlerless licenses come out of the state's total pool of antlerless licenses issued for each county, and the benefit is that landowners can apply for them early.
The prices are the same, but regular antlerless licenses don't go on sale for residents until Monday. Nonresidents can't apply until Aug. 19.
Applicants must agree that their land will remain open to the public for hunting and trapping during the entire license year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. They must also produce a copy of their deed to prove ownership when they apply for the license.
People who lease land are not eligible for the license.
Only one landowner antlerless deer license will be issued per qualifying deed, regardless of the acreage involved, Richardson said.
Richardson said her courthouse office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to handle license sales.
