McDONALD -- School district voters will see a renewal of a five-year emergency operating levy on the Nov. 5 ballot.
The McDonald Board of Education approved putting the levy on the fall general-election ballot at its meeting Monday.
The levy will be 4.3 mills, and it generates $200,147 annually. The issue was originally passed in 1988, district Treasurer Thomas Radabaugh said.
"The emergency levy got us out of trouble a long, long time ago and became a vital part of our budget," Radabaugh added. "I just wanted to let the people know we really need this to operate."
Collection on the levy, if it is approved by voters, will begin in 2003.
Other matters
In other business, the board set a special meeting for 9 a.m. Monday to have an executive session to discuss personnel, and it also may take action on negotiations.
Contract talks are under way with both teaching and nonteaching employees, whose three-year contracts expire Aug. 31.
The board accepted a donation of $1,500 to the athletic fund from the McDonald Sideliners Association to buy "spirit packs" for the 2002 football season.
The packs include a workout uniform for football players and hats for the coaches. The cost of the spirit packs is usually covered by the annual Lift-a-Thon fund-raiser held by the athletic department each spring. But this year, proceeds from that event are being held in an escrow account, Radabaugh said, to help pay for equipment for a new weight room to be built as part of the $7.9 million high school renovation project.
Rich Martin of the Sideliners said the annual Meet the Team night will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 21 at the high school stadium.
The board also accepted a donation of $1,100 from the Krumpak family to create the James J. Krumpak Scholarship Fund.
The next regular board meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 in the high school art room.
