SANDLOT ROUNDUP Huntington rolls past Propane 20-8 to claim NABF crown at Cene Park

Roth Brothers bow in Stan Musial final 7-6 to Canton.
STRUTHERS -- After a game that featured 28 runs, 32 hits and five errors, the Huntington Hounds were declared champion of the NABF Regional Tournament on Sunday at Cene Park.
Huntington took a 12-0 lead after three innings, en route to a 20-8 victory over Youngstown Propane in the final game of the tournament for teams with players 18 and under.
Casey Bowling and Robert Flinn had a game-high four hits for Huntington, which out-hit Propane 21-11.
Bill Wooten and Jared Seasor added three hits each for the winners, with Wooten doubling twice. Daniel Carte hit two home runs and had six RBIs for Huntington.
Chris Cummings got the victory in relief of starter Charlie Thompson.
For Propane, which scored four runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, Gary Hinkson had three hits, while Phil Butch added two, including a triple, and four RBIs.
Phil Faraglia also tripled while driving in three runs for Propane, which defeated Youngstown Express 8-7 to advance to the final. Kevin Prus was the losing pitcher.
Stan Musial Tournament
CINCINNATI -- The Canton Stallions scored two runs in the ninth inning to defeat Roth Brothers 7-6 in the championship game of the AABC Stan Musial Tournament.
Tim Parker was named tournament MVP, going 8-for-14 (.571), with a home run, triple, double and seven RBIs for Canton's Class A team.
Chris Dennis earned the victory in relief, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Roth Brothers had taken a 6-4 lead in the fifth.
Jim Putko went the distance for Roth Brothers, Youngstown's AA team, striking out seven and walking seven. He also hit a solo home run.
It was the second straight win for Canton over Roth Brothers in the championship round. The Stallions won 14-3 in the first game, out-hitting Roth 17-4, to set up the finale. Roger Begue was the winner; Mike Hosterman the loser.
Little League
Poland defeated Canfield 7-3 in the boys 9-10 age group on Sunday, forcing a deciding championship game between the same two teams today at 6 p.m. at Poland.
Softball
Canfield's 11-12 softball team will play in the Central Region Little League tournament in Joplin, Mo., starting today.
Canfield was scheduled to play Rapid City, S.D., at 2:30 p.m. The team's remaining games are against Flatwoods, Ky., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, vs. Appleton, Wis., at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday; Midland, Mich., at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Higginsville, Mo., at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The first- and second-place teams in two divisions will advance to semifinal play on Saturday, with the championship game to be played Sunday.
