NEW YORK-PENN Top 'Cutters too much for Scrappers

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are slumping, and one of the New York-Penn League's best teams doesn't care.
First-place Williamsport, leader of the McNamara Division, sent the Scrappers to their third straight defeat Saturday with a 6-5 victory at Bowman Field.
The Scrappers (20-19) went to Williamsport (25-14) a bit dazed following two frustrating home losses to the Jamestown Jammers. Mahoning Valley held leads of 6-0 and 5-0 Thursday and Friday, respectively, before Jamestown rallied to win both.
Now, the Scrappers are trying to shake a streak in which they have lost five of their last seven games.
It didn't get any better Saturday as Williamsport scored the winning run in the seventh inning, coming from behind for the victory.
Mahoning Valley took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning before Williamsport scored three in the fifth to go ahead 5-3. The Scrappers tied it once more with two runs in the sixth.
Williamsport right-fielder Jorge Cortes went 3-for-4 to improve his hitting streak to seven games.
The Scrappers were led by Ben Francisco, Shaun Larkin and Brian Wright with two hits each. Francisco and Larkin each drove in two runs.
