Police warn aboutdriveway-sealing con
HUBBARD -- Police are warning residents to be on the lookout for a con artist claiming to be selling blacktop sealing, but he doesn't do the work.
Detective Robert Altiere said one homeowner paid $980 to have his driveway sealed. The driveway was new and didn't need to be sealed.
The man went to a bank and cashed the check without being asked for identification.
Altiere said the con artist was driving a white pickup truck.
Public swimming poolcloses a week early
YOUNGSTOWN -- The North Side swimming pool is closing for the season a week earlier than planned.
Joseph R. McRae, park department director, said a broken pump caused the immediate closing.
McRae said this may be a good time to look at renovations and improvements at North Side and Borts, the city's only two public pools.
Borts pool, on the West Side, is open through Aug. 2.
