YOUNGSTOWN -- Steven Solis sat on his porch to escape the heat around 1:30 a.m. today and was shot in the abdomen by gunfire from a passing car on South Truesdale Avenue, he told police.
Solis, 49, was in critical condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Police found a bullet hole in the screen door of Solis' East Side residence.
Solis wasn't able to provide police with more details.
Plan for stoplightsat Routes 11 and 82
VIENNA -- The Ohio Department of Transportation is taking public comments until Aug. 15 on its plan to install traffic lights at state Routes 11 and 82 near Candywood Golf Course on the Vienna-Howland township line.
ODOT said the intersection meets the criteria to warrant full lighting, based on traffic volume and the frequency of accidents.

Youngstown's funding
YOUNGSTOWN -- The city will get $7.26 million in federal funding for 2002-03, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced today.
The city will get $5.7 million in Community Development Block Grants for neighborhood improvement, $1.37 million for the Home Investment Partnerships Program to create affordable housing for low-income households, and $194,000 for the Emergency Shelter program to meet basic shelter needs of homeless individuals and families.
Tip leads to arrestof suspect in slaying
YOUNGSTOWN -- Acting on a tip, police went to the 1600 block of McGuffey Road Saturday evening and arrested Calvin Moore, 30, on a warrant that charges him with complicity to commit aggravated murder.
Moore, of McGuffey Road, is accused of taking part in the March 19 shooting death of Stephen Shackleford, 29, of McBride Street.
Bug Day at the farm
CANFIELD -- Mill Creek MetroParks will present Bug Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the MetroParks Farm, state Route 46 across from Canfield Fairgrounds.
Activities for this free event include bug games, mealworm races and bug hunts. All participants can earn a "Master of Bugology" degree.
A special display, "Bugs Unlimited," will feature live and preserved insects and arachnids, both local and exotic. Entomologist Mark Berman of Columbus will present a video program on insects.

Armed robbery reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Dewey Avenue man reported that he was robbed at gunpoint after he pulled into his garage.
A man armed with either a shotgun or rifle stepped out of the darkness and demanded money at 12:45 p.m. Friday. The victim gave him $80 but then activated an alarm.
The robber then fled. He was described as black, about 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds.
