YOUNGSTOWN Park board
The city park and recreation commission handled these items Thursday:
Joseph R. McRae, city parks director, said the six people laid off in his department as part of citywide cuts all will be laborers. That reduces the number of laborers from 13 to seven. He said he is unsure how that will affect regular or seasonal operations.Tabled a proposed contract with Eagle Heights Academy to use the old South High field house. Park board members want to work out security arrangements and costs first. The proposed contract would have the school pay $15,000 for the 2002-03 school year for gym classes and scheduled sporting events. The school also would pay $25 per hour for others uses, such as sports practices and dances.Approved placement of a new alert siren on a 60-foot pole at Tod playground on the North Side. Mahoning County will pay for the work. The siren that sits on the Tod school will be taken down soon.
