GREENVILLE, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-3rd, will hold a pair of town meetings in Mercer County with the first scheduled for 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Greenville VFW on Conneaut Lake Road. The second session is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grove City American Legion on South Broad Street, Grove City.
Burglary at airport
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Someone forced open a window of the office building at Greenville Municipal Airport and stole $575 cash and a computer valued at $400.
Pennsylvania State Police said this morning that the cash and computer belong to Elbow Street Aviation, which manages the airstrip on Pa. Route 58 in Greene Township just north of the borough.
The burglary occurred overnight Wednesday, police said.
Identity-theft victim
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said the owner of Grove City Motor Sports is the victim of identity theft.
Someone using Richard Thompson's biographical information was able to secure an AT & amp;T calling card and then made 271 phone calls totaling $1,500 between June 21 and June 29, police said.
There is a suspect in the case but no charges have been filed, police said today.
Asphalt spill cleanup
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A section of Moravia Street, from the Columbus Innerbelt to Division Avenue, was closed for five hours as firefighters cleaned up an asphalt spill. Fire Chief James Donston said 100 gallons of asphalt emulsion fell from a flatbed truck operated by Banner Supply Co. of Youngstown about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters used water to dilute it, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation spread sand over it and then Banner cleaned up the debris, he said. The load of 22 five-gallon buckets was heading to St. Vitus Church on South Mercer Street before the spill, said the fire chief. No one was injured and the road reopened to traffic about 7:30 p.m.
Motorcycle accident
YOUNGSTOWN -- Allen Mollenkopf, 57, of Salt Springs Road was in stable condition today at St. Elizabeth Health Center after being injured in a motorcycle accident early today on Interstate 680. When police arrived, Mollenkopf was being treated by an ambulance crew about 100 yards away from his motorcycle. He was given a citation that charges he left the scene of an accident, failed to wear a protective helmet and failed to have a motorcycle endorsement on his driver's license.
Discussing dredging
LIBERTY -- An open house and public meeting concerning a proposal to dredge the Mahoning River will be Wednesday at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex.
Displays explaining the project and possible alternatives may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m.; the meeting is from 7 to 9 p.m.
Mahoning Environmental Dredging Project is designed to remove contaminated sediment from a 31-mile stretch from Warren to the Ohio-Pennsylvania line.
The Army Corps of Engineers will present findings of a feasibility study. Public comment is welcome.
Raid by police, agents
WARREN -- Three West Market Street convenience stores were raided by local police and federal agents Thursday evening, and no arrests were made. Police said they found suspected marijuana and suspected crack cocaine, weapons and drug paraphernalia. The raid followed an eight-month investigation, police said. Warren police, Drug Enforcement Agency and FBI agents took part in the raids.
