WARREN If you can chalk the walk, you can win



Registration begins at 11 a.m.
WARREN -- The 23rd annual Chalk-on-the-Walk contest will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Courthouse Park downtown.
Children of all ages are invited to draw on the sidewalks for prizes from the Warren YWCA and local McDonald's restaurants.
The event is sponsored by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County and the YWCA as part of the Noon in the Park series.
The chalk is provided free by the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority; Trumbull LifeLines; and John Purdue and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reiger, operators of local McDonald's.
The details
Registration begins at 11 a.m.; judging begins at 12:15 p.m. Teams of local celebrities and professional artists will select winners from each of six age groups based on imagination and creativity.
Judges' guidelines in selecting first through third place winners:
UIs the subject matter original?
UIs it creative, unique, imaginative and/or special?
UIs the participant using design or subject matter as a vehicle of expression?
UHas the space been used to its full potential?
UIs there evidence of special techniques?
Ronald McDonald will perform a magic show at 12:30, then winners will be announced.
Competition is divided into six color-coded age groups: yellow, for children 2 years old and under; blue, 3 to 5; green, 6 to 8; orange, 9 to 11; red, 12 to 15; and purple, 16 and older.

Parents should look for the area that matches their child's age, complete a registration card, obtain chalk and have the child create in the designated area.
Only chalk issued for the event may be used.
There will be a general information table near the gazebo.
The regular Noon in the Park vendors will serve lunch. The menu includes gyros, hot dogs, Italian sausage, pizza, fruit, ice cream, brownies and cookies.
