Planning commission report indicates business as usual

Developers have submitted 82 plat proposals this year for approval by the Mahoning County Planning Commission, with most for developments in Austintown and Boardman townships.
A biannual staff report released by the commission Tuesday shows 40 submittals are for replats of lots, 33 are for newly created plats on established roads, and six are for plats in areas where streets must be created.
Executive Director Michael P. O'Shaughnessy said the numbers are average and right in line with past years.
They show that 16 proposals are for developments in Austintown and 10 in Boardman.
Canfield has nine, Beaver has eight, Poland Township has five, Green Township has four.
With three submissions each are Poland Village and Berlin, Coitsville, Jackson and Milton townships.
Goshen and Smith townships have two each.
In total, the plats account for 336 lots, occupying 459 acres.
The commission, so far this year, has collected $9,500 in fees, and developers have posted $1.9 million in subdivision bonds.
The commission gave preliminary approval to plans for the development of 19 lots at North Turner Road and Elwood Avenue in Austintown. The developer of the Squirrel Creek single-family home subdivision is Jim Carsone of Mark IV Builders.
Township trustees failed to vote Monday on his proposed development of condominiums and duplexes adjacent to the proposed subdivision.
Though the township zoning commission recommended approval, trustees delayed their vote because of residents' concerns.
The commission also approved the platting of 11 lots on Starwick Drive south of 42nd street in Austintown.
