Theft of skid loader
AUSTINTOWN -- Police are investigating a report that a thief drove a skid loader away from a construction site on state Route 46 late Sunday or early Monday. Reports do not list the value of the loader. An unknown tool was used to start the vehicle. A contractor told police the skid loader left tracks to the southeast of the site.
Police also are investigating the theft of tools worth a total of $1,070 from a van parked outside The Carpet Shop on South Four Mile Run Road. The tools included an electric staple gun, a jamb saw and a carpet iron. The thief pulled out a door lock on the van between Saturday and Monday.
Sentenced in escape
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man who walked away from a work detail at the Mahoning County Minimum Security Jail in January will serve six months in prison for the offense. Timothy R. Faler, 55, of Royal Mall Apartments in Niles, formerly of Vienna, pleaded guilty last week to an escape charge in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. Under a plea agreement, Judge Robert G. Lisotto ordered that he serve the six-month term consecutive to an eight-month term on receiving stolen property and drug possession charges he picked up in Trumbull County while he was a fugitive.
When Faler walked away Jan. 25 from a work detail at the Mahoning County jail, he had less than four months remaining to serve on a sentence for breaking and entering, possession of criminal tools and possession of drug paraphernalia. Niles police arrested him Feb. 14.
