Open house celebration planned in honor of Mr. and Mrs Gillespie



CANFIELD -- Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gillespie, 4208 Pleasant Valley Lane, were honored by family and friends as they celebrated 60 years of marriage during an open house July 20 at the Canfield home of their daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Mike Sell.
Assisting with the event were the couple's other children and their spouses, Holly and Ted Holz of Parma; Kathy and Ron Tomajko of Decatur, Ga.; Senora and John Gillespie of Denver; Mary Lou and Jeff Thacker of Boardman; and Beth and Jamie Gillespie of Canton. The family circle includes 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The former Lois Mackin and Mr. Gillespie were united in marriage Aug. 1, 1942, at Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown. They are members of Youngstown Baptist Church.
Mrs. Gillespie retired in 1985 from Dollar Bank in Youngstown, where she was a secretary in the trust department.
Mr. Gillespie served 39 months with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the co-owner of the Remnant Room Carpet Store in Warren prior to retiring in 1999 and is a past president of the Mahoning County Muscular Dystrophy Association.
