NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The annual Children's Summer Arts Festival at Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., will begin at 10 a.m. Friday with a "Chalk on the Walk" contest.
Mayor Tim Fulkerson will begin judging at noon and choose first-, second- and third-place winners in age groups 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. Other activities will include kickboxing and gymnastics presentations by New Castle Community YMCA; balloon sculpting by Jolly George; and shows by cartoonist and storyteller Joe Wos and magician Mark Galizia.

New PBS manager
KENT -- Northeastern Educational Television of Ohio Inc., has appointed Trina Cutter of Canton president and general manager of PBS 45 & amp;49.
Cutter graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Telecommunications at Arizona State University and is completing work on her master's degree at Notre Dame University.
Currently president and general manager of WNIT-TV Channel 34 in South Bend, Ind., Cutter, who has extensive experience in programming and production, will replace William Glasser when he retires this fall.
Drama workshop
BOARDMAN -- Move Over Broadway Productions will sponsor a drama workshop for those 16 and older with classes to be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays, beginning Aug. 3 and running for six weeks in Southwoods Common McKay Auditorium on Market Street.
Conducted by Marlene Menaldi Strollo, classes will cover such topics as actor's purpose, elements of drama, body and voice relaxation and warm-ups and include characterization, improvisation and audition techniques. Fee is $50. For information or to register, call (330) 702-1501.
Sunfest sand piles
YOUNGSTOWN -- Reserve your one-ton pile of sand for the sculpture contest, which is from 1 to 4 p.m. next Sunday at Sunfest in Mill Creek Park's Wick Recreation Area.
The contest is open to individuals, teams and families. Registration is $5. Call (330) 740-7107. Also featured will be crafts for kids, a sand volleyball tournament and a car cruise-in. Local band Vegas will play Top 40 hits at 5:30 p.m., and Motion, a Motown revue from Cleveland, will perform at 7 p.m. Both concerts will be at Judge Morley Pavilion, near the park's ice rink.
'Brigadoon' production
CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Three Broadway veterans, one of whom lives in Youngstown, are starring in an upcoming production of "Brigadoon" at Porthouse Theatre, a professional summer theater company. David Vosburgh, founder of Actors' Project of Youngstown, will portray Mr. Lundie; Mary Ann Black of Copley, Ohio, will be Meg Brockie; and Frank Kosik of Sagamore Hills will be Jeff Douglas. Vosburgh and Black are studying for master of fine arts degrees at Kent State University.
Preview night for "Brigadoon" will be Friday, and performances will be Tuesdays through Saturdays through Aug. 11. The outdoor theater is on the grounds of Blossom Music Center, West Steels Corners Road. Call (800) 304-2363 or (330) 929-4416.
