Former bank draws interest

LEETONIA -- A Beaver Township man wants to buy the former Sky Bank building at 243 Main St.
Village Administrator Gary Phillips said Michael Lucyk is a former General Extrusions Inc. employee who became familiar with the Leetonia area as the Boardman company was building its expansion plant in the Leetonia industrial park.
Phillips said Lucyk would operate a coin and collectibles shop from the former bank building.
The Leetonia-Washingtonville Area Chamber of Commerce also has expressed interest in the building.
Phillips said the village council is considering all options regarding sale of the building which is in the best interest of taxpayers.
Sky Bank sold the building to the village for $1 in 2001 after the bank closed its Leetonia branch.
Council considered using the building for village offices and a community center but decided renovation and maintenance would be too costly.
