Class AA semifinal decided tonight



YOUNGSTOWN -- Pal Joey's/New Affair will play Roth Brothers in the Class AA baseball playoffs tonight for the right to advance into the championship series.
The teams will play their deciding game in the best-of-3 series at 7 p.m. at Pemberton/Donnell Park. The winner earns a best-of-5 series match-up beginning Thursday against Jolly Joe's, which eliminated Weaver Chiropractic 13-0.
Pal Joey's/New Affair defeated Roth Brothers 7-6 Monday to tie the series at one game apiece.
Putko breaks out
Leading Pal Joey's/New Affair was Jim Putko, who went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Putko doubled three times and added a single.
Joe Marzano and Dom Yazbek each added two hits for Pal Joey's/New Affair. Yazbek went the distance on the mound for the win, striking out 12.
Eric Jones went 3-for-4 for Roth Brothers, whose rally fell short with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the other semifinal, Jolly Joe's rolled behind an eight-run third inning and a one-hitter by Blair Lang.
Jolly Joe's had 13 hits, including three by Rick Gozur and two each by Ross Buttle, Shane Davis and Mark Nightingale. Nightingale's hits were home runs, including a grand slam. He finished with five RBIs.
