Man to face charges from police chase

AUSTINTOWN -- A South Raccoon Road man was set to appear in Mahoning County Court today to face charges stemming from a high-speed chase early today.
Blase Cinque, 36, is charged by police with failure to comply with an order from an officer, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony receiving stolen property. Cinque also was issued traffic citations charging speeding and failing to stop for a red light.
Reports state that when Cinque was arrested, he told police he had ingested large amounts of cocaine and alcohol and he was short of breath. He was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was treated.
The chase began at about 2 a.m., when an officer spotted Cinque speeding out of a Crum Road driveway, reports state. The officer was looking for someone involved in criminal damaging on Central Avenue, according to police reports.
Police said Cinque reached a speed of 83 mph during the chase, which continued to the end of Lanterman Road. Cinque drove past the end of the road and into the back yard of a Carlin Drive home, where he got out and ran. Police then lost sight of Cinque.
A Carlin Drive resident later called police and said he heard someone moving in a wooded area in his back yard. Police said they found Cinque lying in the wooded area.
Police searched the car and found checkbooks and credit cards that were reported stolen from cars in Austintown on July 9. A suspected crack pipe also was found.
