MERCER, Pa. -- Workers in two transit systems in Mercer County ratified a new four-year contract over the weekend.
The new contract will cover the 28 members of Teamsters Local 261 who work as drivers, mechanics, bus washers and other staff for the Mercer County Community Transit Authority and the Shenango Valley Shuttle Service, said James DeCapua, executive director of the Mercer County Council of Governments.
The COG oversees both transit systems. DeCapua said details of the new contract are not being released until it is approved by the Mercer County commissioners and the Shenango Valley Shuttle Service Advisory Board.
He said he did not know when both groups would vote on the contract, but he said it would be soon. The previous contract expired June 30. Doug Robbins, president of Teamsters Local 261, could not be reached for comment late this morning.
Woman survives crash
SALEM -- A Florida woman injured in a motorcycle crash in Columbiana County that killed her husband was in satisfactory condition today at Akron City Hospital.
Beverly Campbell, 51 of Summerfield, Fla., was a passenger on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by her husband, David Campbell, 52.
The Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Campbell was driving the motorcycle west on U.S. Route 30 Saturday when it went off the right side of the highway near Depot Road.
Beverly Campbell was taken to Salem Community Hospital and then by medical helicopter to Akron City.
Girl struck by SUV
SALEM -- An 11-year-old Salem girl was struck by a sport-utility vehicle.
Aubreyana Yeater of North Broadway Avenue was hit as she rode her bicycle from an alley into the path of a vehicle driven by Mark Calko, 37, of 810 Jennings Ave., police said.
The accident occurred about 4:41 p.m. Sunday. No citation was issued.
Aubreyana was treated at Salem Community Hospital.
Purse snatchings
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police are investigating two purse snatchings in the Grant Street area.
Police said a 72-year-old woman was entering Skyview Towers at 6:47 p.m. Saturday when a man grabbed her purse and knocked her to the ground. Police said the 72-year-old woman was treated at St. Francis Hospital for bruises to her shoulder and hip.
A second purse snatching occurred at 11:14 p.m. Saturday on Grant Street as a 33-year-old woman was walking to her car, police said. It's unclear if the same man was involved in both purse snatchings.
Farmer's market
SHARON, Pa -- The Farmer's market at the City Centre in downtown will offer fresh home-grown produce Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon or until stock runs out.
Market growers will have a variety of locally produced vegetables, fruits, cheeses, bedding and potted plants, honey and cider (in season) throughout the summer. The market started July 6.

Board of education
BROOKFIELD -- The board of education will meet at 9 a.m. July 27 in the high school computer room for its regular July meeting. A public work session will precede the meeting at 8:30. The board normally meets the third Wednesday of the month.
Health-Information Fair
SALEM -- A Health-Information Fair will be July 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at United Steelworkers of America Local 1538 Hall, 547 Prospect St. The health fair, sponsored by Salem Democratic Women, features health-care organizations, government agencies and other groups that will provide free information and services, including fingerprinting for children.
The Mammogram Van of Boardman will offer mammograms for $90. Call (330) 222-1215 for the required mammogram appointment by Friday. Funding is available for eligible low-income women. Attendees must bring their health insurance card and physician's full name, address and phone number.
