YOUNGSTOWN -- Christopher J. McCarty, regional director of marketing and public relations for Humility of Mary Health Partners, was recently named volunteer of the year by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) and recognized at a dinner in Los Angeles. McCarty was nominated and selected by his fellow HOBY volunteers. HOBY conducts leadership development seminars for high school sophomores around the United States and Canada.
McCarty began working with HOBY's annual World Leadership Congress 10 years ago and has continued to be involved on local and national levels. In Ohio, he has served as president of the Ohio Corporate Board, served two years as Leadership Seminar Chair for the Ohio North Seminar, and has been a member of the board of trustees since 2000. He will be chairman of a volunteer training institute for the organization in August. He and his wife, Vicki, manage a HOBY store, an 11-year-old company that sells and distributes official HOBY merchandise.
SALEM -- Blackhawk Automotive Plastics has been named to the Lear Corp. Supplier Hall of Fame, one of nine Lear suppliers recognized this year. The Salem company was honored for its innovative design and injection molding engineering work on automotive seat trim, door trim and interior consoles. Lear also recognized the company for helping to implement several seamless tool transfers and for its assistance in developing new parts for automotive interiors for Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp. Blackhawk has been a Lear supplier for two years.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Beth Finesilver, a buyer for Phar-Mor and a Mahoning Valley native, has been named 2002 Buyer of the Year in the consumables category by Retail Pharmacy Management Magazine. The recognition was based on voting by vendors in a national balloting. Finesilver has been with Phar-Mor for 11 years.
YOUNGSTOWN -- United Community Financial Corp., parent company to Home Savings and Loan and Butler Wick Corp., has been recognized as one of the top 100 public companies in the state by Ohio Business Magazine, the Ohio Department of Development and the Ohio Bicentennial Commission. Ranking is based on annual sales for 2001. UCFC will be listed in the fall issue of Ohio Business, which will be dedicated to coverage of Ohio's 200th birthday.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Edward Jones has recognized two local investment representatives, G. Byron F. Abrigg of Canfield and Timothy Clymer of Austintown, for outstanding sales and service efforts.
WELLSVILLE -- Wellsville Foundry earned a top recognition in the American Foundry Society's second annual casting contest. The company received the highest recognition of any gray iron casting component in the event, which recognized 15 foundries out of the 3,000 in North America.
Corey Jarvis, foundry manager at the Wellsville company and a Boardman resident, was a key member of the team which developed the innovative casting solution. Jarvis has a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering Technology from Kent State University and had been program manager of the Penn State Metal Casting Center at Penn State University before joining the company.
