Advocacy award
The board of directors of the Ohio Advocates for Mental Health has named Dr. William D. Diorio of Boardman the first recipient of the Community Advocacy Award for 2002.
The presentation will be made at the organization's 19th annual meeting July 27 in Marietta.
Each year Ohio Advocates for Mental Health honors legislators, elected officials, administrators, peer support and self-help groups, advocates, and the media for efforts to improve the lives of people with disabilities and, particularly, people with mental illness.
Diorio is a clinical social worker, assistant professor of human development and family studies, and director of the associate of applied science degree program in human services technology at Kent State University's Salem and East Liverpool campuses.
Diorio also is the principal investigator of a three-year research grant to the Columbiana Mental Health and Recovery Services Board by the Ohio Department of Mental Health. The study, among other things, focused on the experiences of adults with severe and persistent illness; the process of recovery; and integration of people with mental illness in the community.
DEGREES
Dental school graduate
Amber L. Ausnehmer, daughter of Atty. John E. and Carole M. Ausnehmer of Boardman, earned her doctor of dental surgery degree in June from Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
Dr. Ausnehmer received her bachelor's degree magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in June 1998 and was a 1994 honors graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School.
She was recognized with both scholastic and achievement awards from the American Academy of Oral Medicine, Dr. Lewis and Dr. Richard L. Bausch Memorial Scholarship Award 2001, James V. Marquard Award 2002, and Waterpik Technologies Prosthodontic Award. She served as a delegate to the American Student Dental Association.
Dr. Ausnehmer has passed the Northeast Regional Board Licensing Examination in Dentistry. She began her general dentistry residency at Forum Health on July 1.
Pharmacy doctorate
Barbara Kolidakis, daughter of George and Kathy Kolidakis of Boardman, graduated summa cum laude from Ohio State University with a doctorate of pharmacy degree.
She is a graduate of Boardman High School and attended Youngstown State University for her pre-pharmacy courses.
Kolidakis has accepted a position with Forum Health as a staff pharmacist.
Osteopathic doctor
Melissa Camouse of Hubbard has received her doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pa.
Dr. Camouse was a 1991 graduate of Kennedy Catholic, formerly Kennedy Christian High School in Hermitage. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1995 from John Carroll University, Cleveland, and obtained her master's degree from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, in 1998. She is the daughter of Samuel and Kitty Camouse of Hubbard.
