NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Brightly colored hot air balloons will fill the sky this week as part of the third annual Western Pennsylvania Balloon Quest.
The yearly fund-raiser for the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department will be held at Scotland Meadows Park, off Scotland Lane, Thursday to July 21.
On Thursday, the gates will open at 5 p.m. and a special night launching of the hot air balloons will be done at 9:15 p.m. if weather permits. There will also be rides, crafts and food in the park until 10 p.m.
Gates will open at 3 p.m. Friday and another hot air balloon launch is set for 6:30 p.m.
Weekend launches are set for 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. In addition to the rides, crafts and food, there will be entertainment and demonstrations in the park throughout both days.
Literacy tutor training
BEAVER -- Adult Literacy Action of Penn State Beaver will host a two-session tutor-training workshop Tuesday and Wednesday.
Each session will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Adult Literacy Action office in the Professional Arts Building, 336 College Ave., across from the Beaver United Methodist Church.
Volunteer tutors will be trained to teach reading, writing, mathematics, and survival skills to adults. Upon completion of the 12-hour workshop, the volunteer tutors will be awarded national certification in the Laubach method of adult instruction.

Dinosaur at airport
IMPERIAL, Pa. (AP) -- The Carnegie Museum of Natural History will soon display a near life-size model of a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton at Pittsburgh International Airport starting in September.
The 15-foot-high and 30-foot-long model is designed to promote the highlights of the region to incoming travelers, including the 100th anniversary of the first rex discovery, which is on display at the museum in Pittsburgh.
The Carnegie Museum has the third-largest repository of dinosaur fossils in the world.
"This display presents a unique opportunity for the airport authority to not only provide a world-class gateway to travelers but to also showcase a world-class museum," said Glenn Mahone, chairman of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, which runs the airport.
