1994 IN REVIEW Green emerges champ after a soggy weekend

Because of Saturday's rain, Tammie Green had to play 32 holes on Sunday, but managed to prevail.
HOWLAND -- In 1994, Tammie Green, a native of Somerset, was the wire-to-wire winner of the second annual Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.
Her three-day total of 10-under-par 206 was three shots off the tournament record set the year before by Nancy Lopez, but still was good enough for a two-shot victory over runner-up Colleen Walker.
Green's reward for the three-day effort was the first-place check of $82,500.
This 1994 tourney was the first of five LPGA tournaments held in the Valley that didn't end in a playoff.
Sunday's final round was a long one for most of the field, especially Green.
After heavy rains left the Avalon layout un-playable, Saturday's second round was suspended with more than half the field still on the course.
Played 32 holes
Green had to play 32 holes on Sunday, saying she may have started to tire down the home stretch.
Green, who shot a final round 2-under-par 70, said she got her momentum going on the par-4 ninth hole when she almost knocked a 6-iron into the hole for an eagle. It stopped six inches from the pin.
While Green and Walker finished one-two, third place was shared by Kim Shipman and Dottie Mochrie at 7-under-par 209s.
Four more golfers were another shot back at 210.
They included Barb Bunkowsky, Betsy King, Katie Peterson-Parker and Jean Zedlitz.
Walker, who had the tournament's only hole-in-one on the 150-yard No. 4 hole in the final round, took home $51,201 for second place.
