AUSTINTOWN Judge hears cases of various charges

The Poland man accused of dragging his ex-wife from the back of a motorcycle pleaded innocent to domestic violence.
AUSTINTOWN -- Several people appeared before Judge David D'Apolito this week in Mahoning County Court in Austintown on various charges.
Yolanda Barnett, 29, of East Judson Avenue, Youngstown, is charged with forgery and receiving stolen property. No plea was accepted, as the charges are felonies. Barnett is accused of trying to pass a bad check at Giant Eagle on Mahoning Avenue and trying to steal six prescriptions from Phar-Mor on Mahoning Avenue on Thursday. She also pleaded innocent to a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of petty theft. Bond was set at $10,000, and her next hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
A police officer followed Barnett from Giant Eagle, where she had been accused of trying to pass the bad check, to Phar-Mor. Reports state that she waited for the pharmacist to leave, then placed some of the prescriptions in a slot under the drive-through window. Police think she was planning to take the prescriptions from the slot once she was out of the store. Barnett left the store with the remaining prescriptions.
A purse that had been reported stolen from Boardman was later found in the car that had brought Barnett to Phar-Mor. Police said they searched Barnett and found a suspected crack pipe.
Thomas Lacey, 47, of East Dewey Avenue in Youngstown, pleaded innocent to two counts of complicity. He is accused of driving Barnett from Giant Eagle to Phar-Mor. Bond was set at $1,000, and his next hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Criminal damaging charge
Terry Moore, 45, of Fitzgerald Drive pleaded innocent to criminal damaging. Moore, a township road department employee, is accused of squirting water into a police cruiser during the township's July 4 parade. He posted $1,000 bond, and his next hearing is set for August.
Police said Moore ignored two warnings from an officer and sprayed the cruiser's computer, radio and scanner. The equipment was not damaged.
Domestic violence charge
Edward Svetlak, 52, of Matthews Road, Poland, pleaded innocent to domestic violence. He is accused of dragging his ex-wife from the back of a motorcycle. Bond was set at $500 and his next court hearing is scheduled for Aug. 5. The ex-wife told police that Svetlak ordered her to get on the back of his motorcycle July 4 at Stix Lounge on South Meridian road. The two then drove to the intersection of South Meridian and Canfield roads, where they stopped at a red light and the woman tried to get off the motorcycle. The man then drove forward, dragging the woman a short distance. A witness called police. The woman refused treatment from paramedics for an injury to her right foot.
Disorderly conduct charge
Donna McCombs, 28, of Rhode Island Drive, pleaded innocent to disorderly conduct. She is accused of smashing her head into a township maintenance vehicle, causing $200 damage. McCombs' next hearing is set for Aug. 19. Police found three dents in the hood of the vehicle, which had been parked in a Woodhurst Drive parking lot. Reports state that McCombs had a loud argument with a friend in the parking lot and refused to leave. McCombs smashed her head into the vehicle while she was being searched for weapons, police said.
