MANTLE TOURNAMENT Astro Falcons rally past Boys of Summer, 7-6



Youngstown Express shut out NDCL and Line Drive Academy beat Twinsburg.
STRUTHERS -- Three local teams advanced while two remain in the loser's bracket after two rounds of action Thursday in the 10th Mickey Mantle 15-16-year-old state championship baseball tournament at Cene Park.
Astro Falcons, in a first-round game, rallied to beat the Boys of Summer, 7-6.
Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Falcons sent 12 batters to the plate to tie the game. Justin Montgomery scored the winning run in the seventh on a single by Joe Irwin.
Youngstown Express blanked NDCL, 8-0, as Mark Tanner fired a two-hitter and struck out six to pick up the win.
Matt Geramita went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Tanner and Joe Pitzer also went 2-for-3.
Line Drive Academy topped Twinsburg Tigers, 5-3. Adam Solich worked three innings, allowing one hit and a run to pick up the win. Matt Madrid had three hits for the winners.
Wolf Construction lost to Ohio Thunder, 4-1, and Becdir lost to Jackson Polar Bears, 2-0.
In the second round, Adam Wigley went 4-for-4 as Astro Falcons upended Shaker Heights, 9-1. Mike Poulokos was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Bill Christian was 2-for-3 with two RBIs .
Montgomery went the distance as he scattered seven hits and struck out five to pick up the win.
Youngstown Express topped Fielder's Choice, 8-7, to continue in the winner's bracket.
Line Drive Academy turned back Andy's Niners, 5-1. Steve Orlosky pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out 10 for the victory.
Wolf topped Garfield, 10-2, and Becdir blanked Nomads, 10-0 in the loser's bracket.
Others scores were: Ohio Thunder 8, North Coast 0; Wayne County 9, Jackson 3; Boys of Summer South 8, NDCL 2; Twinsburg 6, North Royalton 3; and Boys of Summer North 12, Massillon 1.
Today's schedule in the winner's bracket includes these 12:30 p.m. games: Astro Falcons vs. Cuyahoga Falls at Cene No. 1; Youngstown Express vs. Ohio Thunder at Cene 2; and Line Drive Academy vs. Wayne County at Cene 3.
