CHAMPION ODOT schedules event to discuss Rte. 45 project



The proposal would widen Route 45 in several areas.
CHAMPION -- The Ohio Department of Transportation will have an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Kent State University Trumbull Campus to discuss the proposed widening of state Route 45.
The session for public input will be in the technology building, Room 117.

The project proposes to widen Route 45 to six lanes from north of state Route 5/82 to the Folsom Street/Home Drive intersection to accommodate two through lanes in each direction, a center left-turn land and a northbound right-turn lane at Folsom Street/Home Drive.
The project also includes widening Route 45 to five lanes from Folsom/Home to north of State Road to accommodate two through lanes in each direction and a center left-turn lane/two-way left turn lane.
Route 45 also would be widened to six lanes for about 600 feet to provide a northbound right-turn lane at Educational Highway. Folsom Street's approach would be widened to Route 45 to accommodate a center left-turn lane and State Road's approach would be widened to Route 45 to accommodate a right-turn lane.
Additional improvements include resurfacing, drainage system improvements with curbs and gutters, traffic signal upgrades, access management measures, pavement markings, signing and several intersection improvements.
