Motorcyclist is killed in collision with van
SALINEVILLE -- A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a weekend traffic accident.
Steven Shamp of 17643 state Route 164, Salineville, was traveling south on state Route 39, east of Salineville, about 6:40 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his motorcycle. It went left of center and collided with a van, the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Shamp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire caused by arson
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Arson is listed as the cause of a fire in a vacant mobile home in Eckstrom Mobile Home Park on Hadley Road, Hempfield Township.
Township Fire Chief Roy Ritter said the blaze was discovered shortly before 2 a.m. today and there was smoke coming from the eaves and windows when firefighters reached the scene.
The fire was started in a small bathroom and firefighters confined it to that area, but the entire structure suffered smoke damage, he said, estimating the loss at $11,500.
There were no injuries, and Greenville firefighters assisted at the scene.
Man assaulted, robbed
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police are searching for a group of men who assaulted and robbed a man on Mercer Street.
Police said the victim was walking home about 2 a.m. Saturday when four or five men approached him and demanded money. The man told police the men then hit him with a baseball bat and took $12 from his wallet.
The victim was treated at Jameson Hospital for a broken nose and cuts and bruises to his forehead and face.
Home robbed
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said this morning that someone broke a window in a door to get into a home in the 200 block of Cedar Avenue.
A pager, two gold rings and some clothing were taken between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Purse snatcher
SHARON, Pa. -- Police said a 48-year-old city woman was the victim of a purse snatcher as she walked on Prindle Street near Sherman Avenue.
The victim told police she was on the sidewalk around 7:45 a.m. Saturday when a man walked up, grabbed her purse and ran down a nearby alley.
Police searched the area but couldn't find him.
The purse was recovered later in the day behind a garage in the 400 block of Cedar Avenue.
Police said a small amount of cash was the only thing taken.
Grant Center orientation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County is accepting reservations for a Grant Center orientation slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The free program is intended for representatives of nonprofit organizations seeking information on funding sources and fund raising. Information applies to nonprofit organizations only; no information is available for individuals seeking funds.
Main library is a cooperating collection library for the Foundation Center of New York City. Materials in the Grant Center include books, indexes, periodicals and directories. The center also contains information on local foundations and annual reports.

Child support
YOUNGSTOWN -- Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is accepting public comment on recommendations to be considered by the Child Support Reform Shareholders' Group to improve Ohio's child support system.
The Child Support Reform Shareholders' Group is an advisory group representing the many entities impacted by the child support system, including government agencies, parents, domestic courts, advocacy groups, legislators and employers. The 42-member group was established in March 2001 to help ODJFS and county child support enforcement agencies improve the quality of services to custodial and noncustodial parents.
Seven subcommittees submitted recommendations to be selected by the whole group later this summer as final recommendations. Final recommendations will be published this fall.
