BOARDMAN -- Michael J. Rykowski, 42, who has a Market Street, Youngstown, address was arrested at a home on the 6100 block of Glenridge for failing to register as a sexual predator when he changed his address while living in Belmont County. A township police report shows his wife lives at the Glenridge home. Rykowski turned himself in at police headquarters Sunday after he was notified that officers were looking for him. He is being held at the Mahoning County jail pending pickup by Belmont County authorities.
Arrested in disturbance
BOARDMAN -- Police arrested two men after a disturbance at a Melrose Avenue home that began when a child placed a 911 call to say his father was trying to kill his mother, township police reports show.
Police arrived at a home about 9:30 p.m. Sunday where several adults were arguing and children were crying. The 38-year-old father was arrested on domestic violence, aggravated menacing and vandalism charges after the wife said he assaulted her and the couple's 15-year-old son. When placed in a police car, he threatened to beat an officer and kicked out a window.
A second man, 38, of Moyer Avenue in Youngstown, arrived at the Melrose Avenue home after police, parking on the devil strip and swearing at officers and assaulting one while trying to prevent them from placing the other man in the cruiser.
Officers used pepper spray on him, and he faces charges of obstructing official business, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and disorderly conduct.
2 teens face charges
POLAND -- Two 14-year-old boys who set of firecrackers in a Clyde Street driveway face criminal mischief charges. Township police confiscated 9 feet of firecrackers and 25 bottle rockets after they picked up the teens about 2 a.m. Friday.
Police were called to the area by the Clyde Street homeowner who complained that the fireworks scared him and his family, who had been sleeping. The boys were staying at the Bel Aire Lane home of a friend, whose mother had stepped out for a few minutes. The boys, one of North Main Street and one of a neighboring Bel Aire home, were released to their parents.
Motorcyclist killed
SALINEVILLE -- A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a weekend traffic accident.
Steven Shamp of 17643 state Route 164, Salineville, was traveling south on state Route 39, east of Salineville, about 6:40 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his motorcycle. It went left of center and collided with a van, the Lisbon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Shamp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man 'flashes' girls
MASURY - Two 12-year-old girls reported being "flashed" Sunday about 8:50 p.m. on Judson Street in the fifth such incident here since March.
They told police a white man, possibly in his 30s, with dark short or balding hair, pulled up in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and asked for directions. When the girls approached the car, they realized he was wearing nothing from the waist down. He had a camera in his hand.
The girls ran to a nearby residence for help. Police said it's been a little over a month since the last report, but the description the girls gave matched the one of the man in previous episodes.
