YOUNGSTOWN -- An accessible sound and some favorable circumstances might soon be taking local rock band Doc Brown's music to a national audience. Lead singer J.J. Sansone said four of the band's songs are planned for use in episodes of "Taildaters," a new dating show on MTV. Music is not featured prominently in the show, so the songs will probably be background music or commercial lead-ins, an MTV spokesman said. Sansone said the songs were chosen by the show's sound engineer, who first heard Doc Brown when a friend of the band spun their CD in his Los Angeles apartment. He asked to use some tracks for the show, and Doc Brown was happy to oblige. "It's a big steppingstone," Sansone said. "Taildaters" sets up participants on a blind date, while their friends or family watch from a "stakeout van" and provide running commentary for the television viewing audience on how the date is going. Analysts can also interact with the daters via text messages on pagers. Sansone said it's unclear whether or not the band will be compensated for use of the songs, and he's not sure which of the 40 episodes the songs will appear in.
Jazz and wine festplanned for July 26
NILES -- Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will receive some proceeds from the seventh annual Jazz & amp; Wine Fest from 5 p.m. to midnight July 26 and 27 at Great American Stake Out, 5115 Youngstown-Warren Road. Admission is $15. Each evening there will be jazz played by such acts as Leroy Wofford, Good Brother Earl and 90s Super Band, and an opportunity to taste wines from Ohio, California, Washington State and Australia. There will also be a cigar tent by Penn-Ohio Cigars.
Railroad antiques show in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN -- The 22nd annual Northeastern Ohio Railroad Show and Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. next Sunday at Austintown Fitch High School. More than 100 tables will have displays of B & amp;O, Chesapeake & amp; Ohio and P & amp;LE railroad memorabilia such as lanterns, timetables, dining-car china and silver, brass locks and other items dating back to the 1840s. Admission is $5, or free for children under age 12.
Mustang car showcoming to MetroPlex
LIBERTY -- Mahoning Valley Mustangs will sponsor a Mustang Club of American National Mustang Stampede from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. next Sunday at Holiday Inn MetroPlex. Featured at the car show will be Mustangs of every year starting at 1964, Roush Performance Mustangs and a Chinese auction. There is no charge for spectators. Donations and proceeds from the show will benefit Tod Children's Hospital.
Q & amp;A quiz show set upat Unitarian church
YOUNGSTOWN -- Taking cues from the National Public Radio show "Sez Who," two teams will face off in a "Questions and Answers" quiz show at 7 p.m. Monday at the Universal Cafe Arts and Lecture Series at First Unitarian Church, Elm Street and Illinois Avenue.
Participants will include Youngstown State University professors John White, Bill Binning and Gabriel Hernandez-Palmer. Admission is $2.
Interactive 'Rapunzel'from youth theater
YOUNGSTOWN -- It'll be up to the audience to help some fairy tale characters to live happily ever after in Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre's "Small Fry" series production of "Rapunzel." The interactive play is based on the Grimm Brothers' story about a beautiful, long-locked young woman who's been imprisoned in a tower by her mean-spirited godmother. A handsome prince wants to rescue her. Director Matthew DiBattiste's cast features Mandela-Joy Bellamy, Matt Coonrod, Rae Doverspike, Hillary Hill, Will Hill and Shanley Monroe. Performances will be at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays from July 22 to 26 and again at 2 p.m. July 27. Tickets are $5. Call (330) 788-8739 for reservations.
