MILITARY ACADEMY GRADS
Air Force Cadets Ryan R. Spodar and Joel S. McKowan have graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The graduates received bachelor of science degrees and were commissioned as second lieutenants.
The new lieutenants go on to serve as pilots, navigators, engineers, maintenance officers, professionals in various technical fields, and some attend medical or graduate school with special scholarships, while others go directly to nonrated Air Force-wide assignments.
Spodar, whose degree is in basic sciences with a minor in computer sciences, is scheduled to attend undergraduate pilot training at Vance Air Force Base, Enid, Okla.
He is the son of Dorothy Spodar, of North Jackson, and is a 1998 graduate of Jackson-Milton High School in North Jackson.
McKowan, whose degree is in biology, is the son of Sandra Kubicina of Howland, and is a 1998 graduate of Howland High School.
BASIC GRADS
Air Force: Airman Travis L. Snyder (Mineral Ridge High School, '98), son of Martha Herdman of Mineral Ridge and Kenton Snyder of Vero Beach, Fla.; Airman Brian A. Kelty, son of Roseann Ferrara of Austintown; Reserve Airman 1st Class Jeffrey D. Burgess (Laurel High School, New Castle, Pa., '99), son of Jeff and Georganne Burgess, Rural Route 6, New Castle; Reserve Airman Nicole E. Robinette (Girard High School, '98), daughter of Joyce and Dale Robinette of Hubbard.
Army: Pvt. Samuel A. Dozier, son of Debby Dozier of the Virgin Islands, and Parres Dozier of New Castle, Pa.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Brandon J. McElhinny, son of Susan E. and Lawrence J. McElhinny of Jamestown, Pa., completed the Navy Nuclear Power Training Unit course at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, Ballston Spa, N.Y., and was designated a nuclear propulsion plant operator. He is a 2000 graduate of Jamestown, Pa., High School.
Marine Corps Pfc. David M. Skiviat Jr., son of Patsy L. and David M. Skiviat of Steubenville, graduated from the Basic Hygiene Equipment Operator Course at Marine Corps Engineer School, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
He received instruction in basic plumbing, maintenance management, military water supply, water purification and hygiene equipment, and field sanitation.
He is a 2001 graduate of Steubenville Catholic Central High School.
PROMOTIONS
Pascual "P.J." Zamudio III was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force.
Zamudio is the son of Denise Zamudio of Berlin Center and Pascual Zamudio Jr. of Youngstown.
He attended Western Reserve High School until 1996 and graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor of science degree in computer and math sciences.
While at college, he was awarded the KSU Leadership Excellence and Air Force ROTC Blue Chip awards.
He was also a member of the Arnold Air Society, Civil Air Patrol and other intramural associations.
After being commissioned through the Air Force ROTC program at KSU, he was selected for fight training in Pensacola, Fla., where he graduated with the VT-86 "Sabrehawks" on March 2.
He graduated IFF with the 435th Fighter Squadron "Black Eagles" June 4 at Moody Air Force Base in Georgia.
Zamudio is presently in F-15E Strike Eagle flight training with the 33rd Flighter Squadron "Lancers" at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in North Carolina.
