MCCONNELL'S MILL STATE PARK Summer schedule



The Old Mill at McConnell's Mill State Park, in Portersville, Pa., will be open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Labor Day. Visitors can join a scheduled tour or take a self-guided walk through the Old Mill following exhibits that tell the story of grinding grain. Saturdays and Sundays: 1 and 3 p.m., corn grinding demonstrations at the Old Mill. The 30-minute demonstration will show how the "miller" ground corn into cornmeal during the mid-1800s using the power of Slippery Rock Creek. 4 p.m. grist mill tour. Meet at the entrance to the Old Mill, one of the first rolling mills in the country that processed corn, oats, wheat and buckwheat for local customers. Join the mill staff to discover the history of the Old Mill and the people that operated it for more than 70 years.
July 13: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., nature walk along the Hell's Hollow Trail. Meet the park naturalist in the Hell's Hollow parking lot.
July 14: 2 to 3 p.m. Meet in the Old Mill courtyard for a program that focuses on water, personal safety and trip planning.
July 19: 8:30 to 9:45 p.m. Flash your lights over the Kildoo Ball Field to learn more about Pennsylvania's state insect, the firefly, and then play a variation of flashlight tag as you pretend to be fireflies.
