DOCTORS
Graduates at Toledo
Several area people have received their doctor of medicine degrees from the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo. They are Michael McCleary, John J. Stefancin, Michael T. Bigham, Monica Dragoman, Laura Panko and Michelle Sonnenlitter.
UDr. McCleary, son of Floyd and Ruth McCleary, Allyson Drive S.E., Warren, is a 1997 graduate of Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in biology. He will begin residency training in pediatrics at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. He is a 1993 graduate of Howland High School.
UDr. Stefancin, son of Jim and Grace Stefancin, Towson Drive N.W., Warren, is a 1998 graduate of Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Dr. Stefancin, a 1994 graduate of Champion High School, will begin residency training in general surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. At graduation, he was named recipient of the orthopaedic surgery award and of the Coghlin Award in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, two of the top academic prizes given by MCO to graduating students.
UDr. Bigham of Salem is a 1997 graduate of Baldwin-Wallace College of Berea, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology. He will be residency training in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He is a 1993 graduate of Salem High School. While a student at MCO, he was inducted as a member into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was the recipient of several academic scholarships. At graduation, he was named recipient of the Dr. Marian M. Rejent Award in Pediatrics, one of MCO's top academic citations.
UDr. Dragoman of Youngstown is a 1997 graduate of John Carroll University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in biology. She will begin residency training in obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She is a 1993 graduate of Ursuline High School.
UDr. Panko, daughter of Henry and Kathleen Panko, Clovermead Avenue, is a 1998 graduate of Case Western University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in nutrition. She graduated in 1994 from Poland Seminary High School. She will begin residency in pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh.
UDr. Sonnenlitter, daughter of Elizabeth and Gerald Sonnenlitter, South Meridian Road, Youngstown, is a 1998 graduate of Youngstown State University, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in biology. She will begin a residency in family medicine at Barberton Citizens Hospital, Barberton. She is a Chaney High School graduate.
Degree from OU
Stephanie A. Sekula, a graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, has received her medical degree from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens.
Dr. Sekula, a daughter of Roslyn and Andrew Sekula of Poland, received her undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University.
Her medical residency will be at Doctors West Hospital and Grant Medical Center in Columbus in internal medicine. She is married to Dr. Ron Dorbish Jr.
Dr. Dorbish Jr. also earned his medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He is a son of Ron and Mary Ellen Dorbish of Youngstown and a graduate of Chaney High School and Youngstown State University. His medical residency will be in nerve neurosurgery.
STATE PATROL
Now a lieutenant
Youngstown native George Williams of the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Ashtabula Post was promoted from the rank of sergeant to lieutenant by Col. Kenneth L. Morckel, patrol superintendent.
Lt. Williams will transfer to the OSHP's Warren Post to serve as post commander.
Williams joined the patrol in April 1987 as a member of the 116th Academy Class. He was first assigned to the Swanton Post, where he was named post and district trooper of the year in 1993.
Williams graduated from South High School in 1983. Before joining the patrol, he served in the Army.
He lives in Geneva with his wife, Latonia, and they have three children.
