Bottle rocket suspected as cause of house fire
POLAND -- Firefighters say a bottle rocket may have sparked a fire that caused $100,000 damage Friday night to the home at 3166 Hummingbird Hill Drive.
The rocket lodged in a gutter under a shingle, setting a bird's nest on fire. Flames spread to the attic.
No one was home at the time.
Western Reserve Joint Fire District firefighters arrived about 7:45 p.m. to find flames coming out of the roof. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.
Shots fired at home
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two shots were fired into a Lora Avenue home early Saturday. Police found bullet holes in the first-floor living room and second-floor bathroom.
A resident said she heard two gunshots about 12:55 a.m., then heard a motorcycle revving.
About five minutes later, another two shots rang out, she said.
Man faces charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A wallet belonging to a Firnley Avenue woman was found by police Friday night in a bag held by a Glenwood Avenue man. Police said they also found several watches in his pocket.
The man, 38, was arrested on charges of receiving stolen property and obstructing official business.
The woman told police she awoke to the sound of someone kicking in her door at about 7:54 a.m. Wednesday. She came out of her room to find the thief coming up the stairs.
The thief pushed her to the floor and tied her hands and feet, ran downstairs, took her purse and left. The woman untied herself.
Police said the man was arrested near Glenwood and Parkview avenues about 10:30 p.m. by an officer who recognized him.
Meeting rescheduled
CANFIELD -- The Mill Creek MetroParks board has rescheduled Monday's meeting to 7 p.m. July 17.
Men rob video store
HUBBARD -- City police are looking for two males who robbed West Coast Video of an undisclosed amount of money Friday.
Police said the two entered the store at 619 W. Liberty St. just before 11 p.m. and demanded money. One robber had a gun.
Fly-in to benefit aviators
BRACEVILLE -- Scores of aircraft are expected at Warren-Skeets Airport for the annual fly-in from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 14.
The day will feature aircraft demonstrations, model jets, raffles and concessions. There will be no gate or landing fees.
Aquaculture course
VILLA MARIA, PA. -- "An Introduction to Aquaculture" will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Villa Maria Community Center.
Kathleen McElroy, a Humility of Mary service volunteer at Villa Maria Farm and EverGreen, will explain aquaculture aspects, including conservation, fisheries and the environment.
