ATVs in illegal places
GIRARD -- Mayor James Melfi is asking parents to make sure that if their children are operating four-wheel drive All-Terrain Vehicles, they do so legally.
The mayor said juveniles are driving illegally on sidewalks and city streets and on private property without permission in the Squaw Creek, Seneca Woods and Tod Park areas.
Groups of four to six vehicles are being driven in fields.
Cancer fund-raisers
WARREN -- Trumbull County Educational Service Center's Relay for Life team has scheduled a variety of spring fund-raisers to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The team is selling a cookbook that features recipes submitted by TCESC employees. The 95-page spiral-bound cookbook is $5.

The team is raffling a $250 Charlanne Farms gift certificate that can be used for meats, poultry, seafood, cheese, vegetables and more.
The cost is $1per ticket and $5 for six tickets. The drawing will be May 11 at the relay. The winner doesn't have to be present.
Tickets can be purchased from any relay committee member or by calling the TCESC office.
Responsible Citizens
WEATHERSFIELD -- The township Responsible Citizens Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in Summit Assembly of God, 2615 Salt Springs Road, McDonald.
Guest speakers are James G. Tsgaris, Trumbull County commissioner, John Latell, county engineer and Tom Holloway, county sanitary engineer.
The group's meetings, the last Thursday of every month, are open to anyone.
Trustees meeting
MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees will meet in special session for an executive session on personnel at 9 a.m Tuesday.
Action may follow.
Trustees will conduct their monthly caucus afterward.
UAW panel backs Hagan
YOUNGSTOWN --The Ohio State United Auto Workers Community Action Board has unanimously endorsed state Sen. Robert F. Hagan, a Youngstown Democrat, for election to the 17th District congressional seat.
"Hagan is absolutely the most qualified to represent the interests of our members and all working families in the 17th Congressional District," said Warren Davis, UAW Region 2's director.
The region represents 100,000 active and retired UAW members in Ohio, and its members and their families represent 30,000 votes in the 17th District, Davis said.
Teen-ager shot
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 17-year-old boy was in critical condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center with eight gunshot wounds, but a doctor told police the injuries don't appear to be life-threatening.
Police were unable to interview Benjamin Reynolds of Quinn Street because of his condition, but reports say it appears he was shot at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at Garland Avenue and Valley Street on the East Side.
A witness told police he was driving on Garland Avenue when he saw Reynolds in the street, swinging his arms for help. The witness said he saw four males standing on a corner and the teen told him they had shot him.
As he drove Reynolds to the hospital, the witness was followed by a vehicle that Reynolds said was involved.
Officers were called to 1225 Valley St. about 7:45 on a report of gunfire. They reported finding a scale used to measure drugs, and several handguns inside.
Brush-thrower released
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- A 78-year-old city man banned from the Lawrence County Government Center after throwing a toothbrush at a county commissioner has been released from the Lawrence County Jail,
Robert Semler of Highland Avenue was being held after refusing to leave the government center New Year's Eve.
District Attorney Matthew Mangino petitioned Lawrence County Common Pleas Court on Monday to release Semler, saying he didn't think Semler needed to be confined.
Semler was arrested after twice trying to enter the government building after having been banned.
He faces charges of disorderly conduct and disrupting a public meeting in the toothbrush episode and two counts of criminal trespassing stemming from New Year's Eve.
He is to be in common pleas court Thursday on both sets of charges and for a lawsuit he filed against the county to eliminate the banishment order.
