Woman faces sentencing for assault

MERCER, Pa. -- A Sharpsville woman has been convicted of assaulting a sixth-grade teacher in his middle school classroom nearly a year ago.
A jury deliberated for four hours in the case against Victoria Morrison, 33, of Ridge Avenue, before finding her guilty Friday of simple assault, aggravated assault and disorderly conduct, said James Epstein, Mercer County district attorney.
Charges of recklessly endangering another person and making terroristic threats were withdrawn before the case went to the jury, Epstein said.
Morrison was accused of confronting and striking teacher Lewis Rosa in a dispute over his handling of a disciplinary matter involving Morrison's daughter, authorities said.
Morrison said she didn't touch Rosa, who has since retired, but numerous witnesses testified that she struck or poked him in the chest.
Morrison remains free on her own recognizance pending sentencing set for March 28. She could face a sentence of five to 10 years in prison.
