DANCES
XThe Men's Club of St. Charles Church, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman, will sponsor a Sweetheart Dance Saturday at the social hall for those 21 and over. Doors will open at 8 p.m., and dancing will be from 9 to 1 a.m. There will be free beer, pop, snacks, setups and door prizes. Tickets are $25 a couple and $15 a single. XSt. Anthony Altar and Rosary Society will hold an Italian Mardi Gras dinner dance Feb. 9 at St. Anthony social hall, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will be from 7 to 11 for the Italian buffet. The cost is $20 a person. Tables of eight to 10 people will be reserved on request. FUND-RAISERS
XSacred Heart Church of Youngstown will sponsor a Mardi Gras celebration and parade Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown. Costumes are optional but prizes will be awarded to one man and one woman with the best costumes. There also will be a drawing for $1,000. The event, planned from 6:30 p.m. to midnight, will include a meal, cash bar and music. The cost is $25 a person. Tickets will be sold in advance only by calling (330) 747-6080.
XWarren Rotary Club will hold its annual murder mystery at 7 p.m. Friday at Leo's Ristorante in Howland. This year's story surrounds a cast of Hollywood actors and directors who plot to get the lead role in a low budget movie and have no problem killing off the competition. Tickets are $30. NIGHTS AT THE RACES
XSt. Jude Knights of Columbus and Parish Life Ministry will co-sponsor a night at the races at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Jude Activity Center, 180 Seventh St., Columbiana. Admission and refreshments are free, and participants may name and enter a horse in a race for a $10 fee by calling Jack Nichols at (330) 549-0631 today.
