Car hits, kills man
YOUNGSTOWN -- An 82-year-old Cornersburg man was killed early Sunday after he was hit by a car as he walked near the Cornersburg Sparkle Market at 3623 S. Meridian Road.
Police Sgt. David Lomax said investigators believe Richard Drummond, of Flo-Lor Drive, was walking alone and may have been crossing the street from west to east when he was hit by a car driven by a 16-year-old female about 12:25 a.m. The teen's name was not released. Lomax said an investigation continues.
Investigating cases
YOUNGSTOWN -- City police are investigating two separate complaints that city children were sexually assaulted by teen-agers.
On Sunday, a 6-year-old South Side boy told police he had stayed at the home of a family friend on the South Side on Saturday and Sunday morning when a 13-year-old boy had forced him to perform oral sex. He said the teen had forced him to do so on other occasions starting sometime after Christmas.
On Saturday, a South Side man said his 5-year-old daughter had been touched inappropriately by two teen-age boys about six or seven months ago when the child stayed at her mother's East Side home. The man said his 7-year-old son saw one of the boys abusing the girl.

HOWLAND -- Dr. Harold L. Crossley, a dentist and associate professor of pharmacology at the University of Maryland Dental School, will present the first program in the Corydon Palmer Dental Society's 2002 continuing education series Wednesday at Avalon Inn & amp; Resort.

Stopped at checkpoint
BOARDMAN -- A DUI checkpoint on South Avenue, north of U.S. Route 224, yielded one DUI arrest, a citation for possession of suspected marijuana, three citations for open containers, 18 equipment violations and 21 warnings for failing to wear seat belts. Three drivers were cited for operation under suspension and their vehicles were towed.
A total of 424 vehicles passed through the checkpoint conducted by the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department between 10 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday.

Police probe robbery
WEATHERSFIELD -- Township police are investigating a Friday night robbery at a state Route 46 discount store.
Capt. Joe Consiglio said employees of Dollar General were carrying the store's receipts through the parking lot about 9:45 p.m., when a man described as being about 5 feet 5 inches tall, black, with a slim build demanded the money and reached into his sweat shirt pocket as if he had a weapon. Employees gave him the money and he fled.
