2 charged in assault on YSU student
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 25-year-old Girard man and an unidentified man each face a charge of felonious assault after a 19-year-old YSU student was hit in the head with a with concrete block, city police reports show.
Witnesses told police the unidentified man kicked the teen, who is from Oregon, Ohio, until he became unconscious, then the Girard man dropped the block on his head and chest at about 1:10 a.m. Saturday. The assault occurred in a yard between fraternity houses at 45 and 55 Indiana Ave.
The Girard man was arrested at about 1:15 a.m. in one of the houses, where he was found shaving off a goatee. He told police he had assaulted the teen after the teen broke a window at one of the fraternity houses and took a swing at a fraternity member.
The other man gave police a false identification and could not immediately be identified.
Police had been called on a complaint that about 20 people were fighting. The injured teen suffered facial, head and neck injuries and was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center. He was discharged later that day.
