With 7 runners-up, W. Branch is mat king



EAST LIVERPOOL -- West Branch High failed to win an individual title but managed to produce seven runners-up, to win the team championship of the Everett Hoppel Memorial wrestling tournament Saturday at Beaver Local High.
West Branch totaled 166 points to outdistance Beaver Local with 154 in the eight-school field. Lorain Southview was third with 130, followed by Geneva (124), Salem (80 1/2), Blackhawk (61), East Liverpool (21) and South Range (5).
Placing second for West Branch were Stu Sanor (103), Jason Steer (130), Wade Morrow (135), Levi Bardo (152), Drew Newhart (189), Craig Bates (215) and Seth Sharp (275).
Geneva had the most individual winners with five -- Chad Lester (135), James Hynd (140), Jeremy Bernard (152), Devion Carmen (189) and Stephen Britton (275).
South Range and Beaver Local each had three winners. South Range had Dan Mitchell (103), George Berlinger (145) and Sterling Robinson (160), while Beaver Local produced Jared Hoppel (130), Jordan Williams (171) and Adam Hoppel (215).
