LISBON -- The Columbiana County Health Department will offer an orthopedic clinic Feb. 6 at Salem Community Hospital for residents under the age of 21 who have possible orthopedic problems. The clinic will be staffed by Dr. Dennis Weiner, director of orthopedics at Akron Children's Hospital. Children may be referred to the clinic by a doctor, nurse, teacher, parent or grandparent. Hospice volunteers
BOARDMAN -- Forum Health at Home Hospice, formerly Hospice of Northeast Ohio, offers an eight-week volunteer training class at Beeghly Medical Center beginning Feb. 27. Volunteers supplement the care offered by the Hospice staff by sitting with patients, completing errands, assisting with household chores and providing comfort to families and patients. The class meets once a week for eight weeks from 9 a.m. to noon. Carpools will be arranged for volunteers in Trumbull County, if needed. Health screenings
POLAND -- Life Line Screening will offer primary health screenings to detect the risk of stroke and vascular disease Feb. 24 at Poland Township Government Center, 3339 Dobbins Road. The tests, $40 each, include carotid artery screening, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index. Also, bone density screening for women, which tests for early detection of osteoporosis, will be offered. The results will be mailed to each individual. Medical equipment
SHARON, Pa. -- The Medical Equipment Recycling Program has received 36 child-sized items, including wheelchairs, walkers, a stroller and various therapeutic and specialized chairs and standers, from the Watson Institute, a school for children with disabilities in Sewickley, Pa. MERP refurbishes medical equipment and distributes it to those who lack the insurance coverage or financial means to buy the equipment they need. Library book sale
EAST PALESTINE -- The annual book sale by The Friends of the East Palestine Memorial Public Library will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 1 and 2 at the library, 309 N. Market St. With proceeds from the previous sale, the Friends of the library have purchased about 60 music compact discs, adding new country, rock, jazz and pop selections to the library's collection.
