AREA COLLEGE BASKETBALL Slippery Rock edges Shippensburg; Mount Union loses



South Range graduate Robin Thayer scored 15 points to help Westminster defeat Grove City.
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Aaron Epps scored 22 points and Bryant Lewandowski tacked on 19 points to help lift Slippery Rock past Shippensburg 74-73 in a men's college basketball game Saturday.
Dave Freeman also scored 13 points for the Rock (6-11, 1-3 PSAC), which led 42-34 at the half.
Oberlin 69, Hiram 59: OBERLIN -- Cameron Leverett scored 29 points to lead the Yeomen (5-13, 4-6 NCAC). David Mayle scored 19 points to ignite Hiram (3-16, 1-9).
Otterbein 79, Mt. Union 73: WESTERVILLE -- Jeff Gibbs hit for 24 points and had 13 rebounds for Otterbein (17-2, 10-2 OAC).
Five players scored in double figures for Mount (13-6, 8-4), led by Todd Richards with 14 points.
Tiffin 70, Geneva 59: TIFFIN -- Kipp Huntsberger scored 26 points for Tiffin (9-11, 8-4 AMC) while Jerome Moss and Mufutau Ibrahim each had 11 points for Geneva (12-10, 3-8).
Grove City 111, Westminster 101 (4 OT): NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Tanner Prosser scored 23 points and six other players scored in double figures for Grove City (14-5) in the longest (4 OT) game in the history of both schools. Mike Hill had 28 points for the Titans (7-12).
Women: ALLIANCE -- Jenniver Harrison scored 24 points to help Otterbein defeat Mount Union 55-47.
Otterbein (5-13, 3-9 Ohio Athletic Conference) jumped out to a 32-17 lead at the break.
Erin Bryson scored 11 points for the Purple Raiders (5-13, 3-9).
Shippensburg 65, Slippery Rock 53: SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Jessie Gordon scored 22 points for the winners (14-5, 3-2 PSAC).
Shelbey Wardman scored 16 points for Slippery Rock (9-8, 2-2).
Westminster 67, Grove City 62: NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Robin Thayer, a graduate of South Range High School, scored 15 points for the Titans (8-8, 3-1 PAC).
Cara Denniston and Abby Moose evenly split 24 points for Grove City (9-8).
Kenyon 58, Hiram 41: HIRAM -- Beth Lye scored 16 points for Kenyon (10-7, 6-4 NCAC). Hiram (3-14, 0-9) got 12 points from Gena Rose. Hiram fell behind 28-19 at the break.
Bethany 72, Thiel 55: GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Kelley Richardson collected 26 points and 16 rebounds to pace the winners (15-3, 3-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference).
Katie Hardie, a graduate of Cardinal Mooney, added 13 points and seven rebounds for Bethany.
