CORTLAND -- Brandon Bakker's steal in the final 10 seconds helped the Lakeview High basketball team seal its 59-54 victory over Hubbard Friday in a Trumbull Athletic Conference showdown.
A fourth-quarter rally had cut Lakeview's lead to three points when Bakker came up with the ball.
Bakker led the Bulldogs with 14 points while teammates Jon Reid scored 13 and Dave Costas 10. Kevin Rigby scored nine points, pulled down 15 rebounds and made four assists.
Newton Falls 51, Champion 46: NEWTON FALLS -- With the score tied at 36 all going into the final quarter, Newton Falls (12-2, 8-2) outscored Champion (7-6, 5-5) to prevail.
Eric Lance led the Tigers with 19 points. Jeff Stanley added 11. Mark Kish sparked the Golden Flashes with 14 points. Justin Kurilmick chipped in with 13.
Girard 50, Liberty 49: LIBERTY -- Randy Mason scored two free throws with 5.7 seconds to play for the final scores of the game for the Indians (5-9, 3-7).
Walter Jones scored 12 points, Dustin Helle had 11 and Mason 10 for the Indians. Jones and Mason each had five rebounds.
Sophomore Bradley Fletcher scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half for the Leopards (3-11, 3-7).
