Pitching in for grant
LIBERTY -- Township businesses are being asked to contribute money to help the community better compete for a grant to improve Belmont Avenue.
The Liberty Business Association hopes to raise $15,000 as part of the local contribution for a $73,500 state grant through the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.
Steven Shagrin, association treasurer, said the township will match up to $15,000 any contributions made to the association, which also will donate $1,500.
If the $15,000 goal is reached and the grant approved, Shagrin explained, the money would be used to construct 12 pedestrian rest areas along Belmont.
Each area would consist of a park bench and landscaping.
This summer, sidewalks will be created along the Belmont corridor, from Gypsy Lane to Church Hill Park near Interstate 80. Shagrin said the association is asking the businesses to make a pledge by Wednesday. Nine pledges have been received that total $3,675.
