SHARON English to use 'Net in bid for re-election

SHARON, Pa. -- U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie won't try to physically visit all seven counties in the new 3rd Congressional District when he announces his re-election bid Monday.
Instead, English will made his announcement over the Internet at 11:45 a.m. He will be seeking his fifth term.
English was the representative from the 21st District, which included all of Erie, Crawford and Mercer counties and part of Butler County.
The 21st District was eliminated in a redistricting plan drawn by the state Legislature earlier this month, and English will now be in the new 3rd District.
That covers all of Erie, but only the largest parts of Crawford, Mercer and Butler counties. It picks up pieces of Warren, Venango and Armstrong counties as well.
How to see it: English will make his announcement live via a Webcast from the Manufacturers' Association in Erie. It can be viewed by logging on to English's Web site at www.philenglish.org.
"We believe this is the first time any incumbent member of Congress has employed the Internet for a major campaign announcement," said Josh Snyder, English's campaign manager.
