WARREN -- Second Bancorp Inc., holding company for Second National Bank, reported 2001 earnings of $17 million, or $1.69 per share, compared with $6.1 million, or 60 cents per share in 2000. The bank earned $4.3 million in its fourth quarter, or 43 cents per share, compared with $4 million, or 40 cents per share for the same period last year. Excluding costs related to the October acquisition of Commerce Exchange Corporation, quarterly earnings would have been $4.5 million, or 45 cents per share.
STATE Worthington Industriesplans to cut 500 jobs
COLUMBUS -- Worthington Industries Inc., will cut 500 jobs, or 7 percent of its work force, by shutting down or reducing operations at eight plants. The company will close plants in Malvern, Pa.; Jackson, Mich.; Fredricksburg, Va.; Claremore, Okla.; and discontinue operations of two partnerships in Itu, Brazil. It will reduce operations in Rock Hill, S.C., and Louisville, Ky.
