Food bank to benefit from YSU program

YOUNGSTOWN -- Senior nutrition students from Youngstown State University will present a free cooking demonstration from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in Cushwa Hall for member agencies of Second Harvest Food Bank.
The demonstration is the sixth in a series aimed at helping recipients of the food donations learn creative ways to prepare meals and the first held on the YSU campus. After demonstrating food preparation, students will distribute recipes for the agencies to share with the families they serve.
Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m., followed by the demonstration at 10 a.m., an information session at 11 a.m. and a buffet lunch at 11:15.

Second Harvest Food Bank, YSU, and the Eastern Ohio Area Health Education Network are sponsoring the demonstration.
This year, Second Harvest, a nonprofit organization committed to eliminating hunger in the United States, will distribute 4 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 3.2 million meals, to almost 200 agencies, including church pantries, homeless shelters, battered women's shelters, and adult day-care facilities in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Most of the recipients are children, the elderly and working poor who are in temporary hunger crisis situations.
