WHAT THEY SAID Redistricting issue
Comments from and the vote of some local legislators on redistricting:
"For 150 years, the Mahoning Valley has been together. It's a sad day for the Mahoning Valley, but it's even a sadder day for this institution," state Sen. Robert F. Hagan of Youngstown.
State Sen. Gregory L. DiDonato, a Dennison Democrat, also blasted the GOP-drawn map, particularly the proposed 6th District that would stretch from southern Mahoning County along the Ohio River all the way to part of Scioto County. "That's a disgrace," DiDonato said. "Some of those counties will never see their U.S. congressman. This is a slap in the face to the voters of Ohio."
Hagan, DiDonato and state Sen. Timothy Ryan, D-Warren, voted "no" on the measure.
