Chocolatier renews'Price is Right' deal
YOUNGSTOWN -- Shelton-Mathews Chocolates again has been selected to supply candy for a prize on the television show "The Price is Right."
Donald Mathews Jr., president of the Mahoning Avenue company, said he has supplied 25 one-pound boxes to be awarded on the show to air Jan. 31. This is the third year that the CBS show has selected the local chocolates, which have been recognized in national consumer and chocolate publications.
Earnings improvefor United Community
YOUNGSTOWN -- United Community Financial Corp. earned $5.6 million, or 17 cents a share, in the fourth quarter, compared with $2.5 million, or 8 cents a share, in the same quarter of 2000.
For 2001, it earned $15.7 million, or 48 cents a share, compared with $11.6 million, or 35 cents a share, in 2000.
The improved earnings came from growth in loan and deposit portfolios and the addition of Industrial Bancorp., which United Community acquired last year, said Douglas McKay, chairman and chief executive.
United Community is the parent company of Home Savings and Loan Co. and Butler Wick Corp.
Program will assistlaid-off Steelworkers
CLEVELAND -- The United Steelworkers of America and the consulting firm CGI have agreed to develop a program to assist laid-off LTV Steel workers and others affected by the closing of LTV plants. The program, which will aid people in finding work, will begin in two weeks.
